Zuvand Plateau is a unique natural site located in the high mountain zone of the Talysh Mountains, within the Lerik region. Unlike the humid subtropical climate of the Talysh forests, this area stands out with its distinct arid mountain steppes, semi-desert landscapes, and xerophytic vegetation.
The nature of the plateau is rich in wormwood, phrygana-type steppe plants, and rocky slopes. The abundance of sunny days and low precipitation have formed a unique microclimate here. Remote mountain villages, ancient traces of settlement, and a traditional lifestyle add cultural value to the plateau's natural scenery.
Hiking routes in Zuvand mostly follow dirt roads and trails. The trails stretching along broad plateaus, open horizons, and deep valleys provide great opportunities for hikers to observe the surrounding peaks. Caution is advised on some uphill and downhill sections while navigating the mountain terrain.
The best season to visit the plateau lasts from late spring to mid-autumn. Severe cold and frosty weather are observed during the winter months. Since the area is located close to the state border, it is important to carry identification documents and comply with official regulations during your visit.

The best period is from May to October. During these months, the roads are open and weather conditions are favorable for hiking. In winter, movement becomes significantly difficult due to freezing temperatures and snow.
Zuvand Plateau is suitable for hikers with moderate physical fitness. Although the area does not require steep technical climbing, long walking sections across open terrain demand endurance.
Given the open and sun-exposed steppe conditions, a sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are essential. Sturdy footwear suitable for mountain terrain, windproof clothing, and an adequate supply of water should also be provided.
Since Zuvand is located near the state border, carrying your ID card or passport is mandatory. As rules in the border strip may change, it is necessary to clarify official requirements in advance and avoid crossing into unauthorized restricted areas.
