Zagatala travel guide
A multicultural region of centuries-old plane trees, fortress walls, hazelnut groves and a nature reserve.
Zagatala is at the north-western tip of the country, close to the Georgian border. Azerbaijanis live here alongside Avars, Tsakhurs and other peoples, which gives its cuisine and culture a character of their own.
The town centre is known for its giant plane trees and 19th-century fortress walls. In the mountains lies the Zagatala State Nature Reserve.
