Goygol travel guide
An emerald lake beneath Mount Kapaz, a national park and a 19th-century German colony.
Goygol lies near Ganja in the Lesser Caucasus. The region takes its name from the lake formed in 1139, when a powerful earthquake brought down part of Mount Kapaz.
The lake and the surrounding forests belong to Goygol National Park. The district town is known for the historic buildings of Helenendorf, a colony founded by German settlers in 1819.
