Lake Ambil: three hours from Baku, a lake hidden in silence

Three hours from Baku is the ideal distance for a weekend route. Lake Ambil sits exactly within that radius, surrounded by dense forest.
The route
Meeting at 06:40 (20 Yanvar metro), arrival at the village of Zeyva at 10:00. The distance is 8 km there and back, difficulty easy to moderate.
→ Shabran, Lake Ambil forest hike
Who it is for
The character of this route is not "adventure" but quiet. It suits:
- Photographers — the forest reflected in the lake gives the best shot
- Anyone tired after a working week who simply wants to walk among trees
- Middle-aged walkers, or those starting again after a long break
What to do when you reach the lake
The best advice is: nothing. Sit for 20 minutes without your phone. The sound of a forest lake (birds, wind, water) is not audible in the first 10 minutes after city noise; your ears have to adjust.
Two notes for photography
Morning. The surface of the lake is calmest in the early hours — before the wind picks up the reflection is a mirror.
Polarisation. A phone has no such filter, but the angle works: looking at the lake at 30–40 degrees shows more of the colour under the water, while looking straight down strengthens the reflection.
Nearby
There are several routes along the Shabran–Quba line. If you want a more demanding day: Qusar, Kuzun–Laza trek or Mastdargah peak.
