Nakhchivan: Duzdagh, Batabat, and Alinja Castle in Three Days
Nakhchivan is the least visited region of Azerbaijan — geography is the reason, not the content. The three-day itinerary showcases four different sides of the region.
→ Ancient land of Nakhchivan tour (Guesthouse stay)
Four key spots on the itinerary
Duzdagh cave. Tunnels carved inside salt deposits. Due to its air composition, it is used for treating respiratory illnesses (speleotherapy). The temperature inside the cave remains constant year-round.
Ashabi-Khaf. A sanctuary nestled among rock cavities. The path consists of stairs.
Lake Batabat. An unexpectedly green plateau after the arid landscapes of Nakhchivan. The "floating island" on the lake is the most photographed spot in the region.
Alinja Castle. A fortress atop a mountain. Reaching the top requires climbing a long staircase — this is the most physically demanding part of the route.
What to prepare for
Stairs. Both at Ashabi-Khaf and Alinja. Trekking poles are useful for those with knee issues.
Dry climate. The weather in Nakhchivan is drier and hotter during the day than in Baku. Bring water and a hat.
Meals. Lunch and dinner are not included in the tour price — plan your budget accordingly.
Who is this tour for?
The difficulty level is easy: this is not a trekking tour, but a sightseeing and history trip. It is one of the most suitable multi-day itineraries on the list to take with children or elderly parents.
For those looking for a serious hike in the same timeframe: Tufandag peak trek.
